HAZLETON, PA., Oct 11, 2001. - Excel Corporation has begun posting management, salaried and clerical positions for its case-ready meat plant here and will begin hiring hourly production employees in early November.

Located in Humboldt Industrial Park West, the case-ready business will initially employee 150 to 200 people on one production shift. When the plant is fully operational on two production shifts, it will employ 500 to 700 people. The Excel jobs are being posted at the Hazleton Careerlink, surrounding Careerlink centers and Careerlink's website, www.pacareerlink.state.pa.us.

"We will be transferring about 16 people from Excel's other facilities and hiring between 40 to 50 management and salaried positions locally when fully staffed," said Brad McDowell, general manager of the Hazleton case-ready business.

The Excel facility will convert wholesale cuts of beef and pork into packaged products that are ready to go directly into the grocery store meat case. Production is scheduled to start on Jan. 7, 2002.

"The site project is on schedule and we expect to have the building closed in by mid-October, with equipment being installed in late October or early November," McDowell said.
