Excel Announces Plan To Acquire Emmpak Foods

WICHITA, KS -- Excel Corporation said that it has signed a letter of intent to acquire Emmpak Foods Inc., a leading producer of value-added meat products located in Milwaukee, Wis.
The transaction is expected to close in August. Terms were not disclosed.
"Emmpak will broaden the array of customer solutions we can provide," said Bill Buckner, president of Excel. "Emmpak has an excellent management team and staff, which will add depth at Excel."
Justin Segel, Emmpak's president said: "This is a positive plan for the future of Emmpak Foods. It enables the company to access a greater level of resources to continue growing the way we have in recent years."
Segel said he anticipates that the Emmpak Foods' corporate headquarters will remain in Milwaukee.
Emmpak sells a wide variety of products, including cooked meats, deli meats, frozen hamburger patties, case-ready ground beef, fresh boxed beef, portion-controlled steaks, a variety of home meal replacement products and ready-to-eat sandwiches.
Based in Wichita, Kan., Excel produces many of the same products, as well as fresh and processed pork. Excel also is a leader in case-ready beef and pork programs.
Emmpak has three processing plants in Milwaukee, employing about 1,800 people. Excel employs about 20,000 people worldwide and operates 17 beef, pork, further-processing and case-ready facilities in the United States, Canada and Australia.
